"Città incantevole e immensa per la sua ricchezza artistica e culturale. Non basta una vita per conoscere la città di Roma. Roma infatti costituisce un "unicum" con i suoi 34 secoli di storia urbana. Si sono susseguite almeno tre città, quella dell'antica Roma, quella cristiana e quella di Roma capitale. Non c'è avvenimento della storia conosciuta che non abbia lasciato un segno in questa città. E' una città densa di personaggi e storia, stratificati. Incredibili sono le sorprese che Roma riserba anche a chi crede di conoscerla (...) Qualcosa è in essa che supera le generazioni e i secoli, li plasma e ricrea secondo il suo genio, ed è veramente intangibile perché al di sopra della comune ragione degli uomini "
